Principal Instructor

The Principal Instructor at HMSS has overall responsibility for all Heights Middle School Shorts camps. Proven experience in the film industry – on crew, in pre- or post-production, as an actor or writer, or in related positions – is highly preferred.

  • Curriculum Development and Instruction: Create and manage the curriculum for the HMSS camp, including writing workshops, film-making instruction, and daily student activities. Teach students how to convert short stories into scripts and screenplays.
  • Planning and Coordination: Attend planning meetings, manage the film schedule, secure filming locations, and oversee request permits. Participate in the Parent ‘Meet and Greet’ and other preparatory events.
  • Leadership and Oversight: Direct student activities during camp, enforce rules, and ensure a safe, disciplined, and supportive environment. Oversee the use of materials and lead film-making instruction.
  • Event Production and Support: Plan, produce, and participate in the film screening and rehearsal. Assist with stage setup and collaborate with faculty and counselors to operate the camp smoothly.

Classroom Instructor

Our Classroom Instructor supports the HMSS camp program and the development of HMSS camp student films from pre-production to post-production in a classroom setting. Experience in the film industry – on crew, in pre- or post-production, as an actor or writer, or in related positions – is highly preferred.

  • Instruct and Guide: Teach film-making skills including storytelling, filming, editing, and acting. Lead daily classroom instruction and assign tasks to complete film projects.
  • Collaborate and Support: Work with the Principal Instructor and Editors on curriculum, film locations, and editing. Assist students with movie posters and other film-related tasks.
  • Engage with Campers and Families: Participate in virtual and in-person events like the Parent ‘Meet and Greet,’ the camp “Table Read,” and the Film Screening. Ensure a safe, supportive, and engaging camp environment.
  • Maintain Discipline and Safety: Enforce camp rules, guide camper conduct, and help with security and recreational activities as needed.
