Classroom Instructor
Our Classroom Instructor supports the HMSS camp program and the development of HMSS camp student films from pre-production to post-production in a classroom setting. Experience in the film industry – on crew, in pre- or post-production, as an actor or writer, or in related positions – is highly preferred.
- Instruct and Guide: Teach film-making skills including storytelling, filming, editing, and acting. Lead daily classroom instruction and assign tasks to complete film projects.
- Collaborate and Support: Work with the Principal Instructor and Editors on curriculum, film locations, and editing. Assist students with movie posters and other film-related tasks.
- Engage with Campers and Families: Participate in virtual and in-person events like the Parent ‘Meet and Greet,’ the camp “Table Read,” and the Film Screening. Ensure a safe, supportive, and engaging camp environment.
- Maintain Discipline and Safety: Enforce camp rules, guide camper conduct, and help with security and recreational activities as needed.
Production Assistant
We are looking for a competent Production Assistant to support all aspects of HMSS Short films. The crew will count
on you for various crucial tasks, from organizing sets to distributing scripts to crowd control.
- Prepare and Assist: Help prepare the set with lights, props, and equipment. Assist filmmakers, directors, screenwriters, and other crew members to ensure smooth production.
- Organize and Distribute: Print and distribute daily paperwork such as scripts and call sheets. Act as a runner to distribute messages or items within the film crew and cast.
- Coordinate and Control: Escort actors around the filming area, coordinate extras, and manage crowd control by directing pedestrians away from the filming area and securing the set.
- Perform Administrative Tasks: Handle administrative work including answering phones and paperwork. Undertake various errands as assigned to support the production.
Filmmaker
The HMSS Filmmaker combines artistic talent, technical skill, and project management to transform ideas into films for the HMSS camp program.
- Daily Engagement: Attend HMSS daily for two weeks of filming and editing.
- Collaborate and Plan: Work with HMSS instructors to plan and execute daily schedules.
- Direct Student Activities: Lead and direct student activities throughout the HMSS camp.
- Location Planning: Plan and schedule film locations with Building Heights organizers and HMSS staff.
- Demonstrate and Instruct: Show campers how to use filmmaking materials, including computers, storyboards, HMSS equipment, and green screens.
- Teach Filmmaking Skills: Instruct campers in various aspects of filmmaking, such as storytelling, filming, editing, film styles, music incorporation, rehearsing, acting, on-location filming, and best practices.
- Editing Leadership: Guide students in editing their films.
- DCP Transfers: Lead students in DCP Transfers for all edited HMSS films.
- Event Participation: Assist with and attend the film screening.
- Support Camp Operations: Collaborate with faculty and student counselors to ensure a welcoming, safe, challenging, supportive, and comfortable camp experience.
