  • All applicants have an option to submit, with their application, a synopsis of the story they would like to turn into a film

April 20 and 27: Lake Erie Ink Writing Workshops

  • All campers must attend these writing workshops where each student will complete their story, pitched to a panel and form production teams.

Week 1: May 4, 11, 18, & 25: HMSS Screenwriting Workshops

Meet Nat Dinga

  • Production crews work together to turn their story into a screenplay and storyboard.
  • Attendance at the screenwriting workshops is mandatory.
  • Each crew member will participate in the screenwriting process and add the perspective of their assigned role (e.g., Sound Director will consider sound recording and sound effects, Casting Director will work casting actors who audition for each film, etc.). 
  • Screenwriters will have ultimate responsibility for turning the stories into scripts and producing the storyboards.
  • Casting Directors will cast the characters for each short film on May 18, 2024 from 11:45AM-2:15PM.

Auditions are being held at Coventry Village Branch Library at 1925 Coventry Rd., Cleveland Heights, OH 44118

The Table Read: June 1

  • Each team will read their final script with the actors who are cast in each film.
  • Attendance is mandatory

Week 2 & 3: June 3-14: HMSS Film Productions

  • Instructors will develop a production schedule, giving each crew approximately two days to film their production. 
  • Directors will be in charge of the creative direction of the film productions and Assistant Directors in charge of the logistical aspects.
  • Other crew members will be responsible for their areas of expertise. 

Film Screening: June 16: HMSS 2024 Film Screening

The Final Film Screening of all Heights Middle School Shorts 2024 productions will be held on June 16 at the Cedar Lee Theater. Families and friends are encouraged to attend.
