HMSS Partners with Heights Career Tech
Heights Middle School Shorts is excited to establish a formal partnership with Heights Career Tech to offer students a unique hands-on film education experience throughout the year. Through this partnership, students will explore filmmaking in depth as they tap into their creativity while developing they technical skill and experience they need for success in the world of cinema.
Year-Round Programming
Thanks to our partnership, HMSS will now be able to offer Heights middle-and high-school students film education and creative opportunities throughout the year.
Fall and Winter
During the fall and winter, they will study documentary filmmaking, honing their research, interview, and storytelling skills under the guidance of industry professionals while learning to shoot, edit, and frame real-world stories on film.
Spring and Summer
In the spring, Heights Middle School Shorts gets into full swing. The two three-week filmmaking camps give students hands-on industry experience as they explore all aspects of film production, from directing and cinematography to lighting, sound, editing, and post-production. Equally important: the programs are centered on creativity and collaboration, allowing campers to make movie magic while they refine their skills in a real-world environment.
In addition, Heights students in orchestra and band are invited to participate in the HMSS Film Scores program. This specialized summer program teaches students the art of film scoring and how music and sound work in harmony with visual to elevate storytelling. While learning the basics of composition, arrangement, and recording music for film, HMSS Film Scores students develop a deep appreciation for the crucial role that sound plays in the filmmaking process.

By offering these diverse and dynamic programs across the year, our partnership ensures that students are exposed to every aspect of the creative and technical process behind filmmaking while developing specialized skills in their area of interest. By offering students the chance to create documentaries, short narrative films, and film scores, through our partnership with CTE we can provide an enriching, year-round learning experience that empowers students to explore the film arts and develop their creative potential.
